Custom Lithium-Ion Battery Packs Built to Your Specification
Request a custom battery quote Configure your pack requirements
Lithium Battery Company designs and builds custom lithium-ion battery packs for OEM and industrial equipment. You give us the voltage window, load, runtime, space and charger; we specify the cells, series/parallel configuration, battery management system (BMS), enclosure and connectors, then build the pack to an approved specification. We've been designing and building custom lithium battery packs since 2014, with hundreds of thousands of packs produced for OEM programs.
Custom programs start at 25 units. If one of our catalog packs is close, catalog quantities start at 10 units and we can modify it from 25. Volume programs only.

What you can customize
A custom lithium battery isn't just a different capacity. Every item below changes the design, the validation plan and the price, so it helps to decide early which ones you need.
- Nominal voltage and voltage window. Set by the series cell count. LiFePO4 (LFP) cells are 3.2V nominal, so common LFP packs are 12.8V (4S), 25.6V (8S) and 51.2V (16S). NMC cells are about 3.6–3.7V nominal, so 7S is about 25.2V and 13S about 46.8V. We match the full-charge and cut-off voltages to your controller, not just the nominal number.
- Capacity and energy. Set by the parallel cell count and cell size. We size from your runtime and duty cycle, then check the energy against your weight and space limits.
- Continuous and peak current. Drives cell selection, conductor size, fusing and BMS rating. Motor start-up, lifting and inrush loads matter more than average current.
- Chemistry. LFP for cycle life and thermal stability; NMC when energy density and weight are the tighter constraint. See LFP vs NMC chemistry.
- Cell format. Cylindrical, prismatic or pouch cells, chosen for energy, current, space and cost.
- BMS and communications. Protection limits, cell balancing, state-of-charge reporting and communications (CAN or another protocol) where your equipment needs them. See battery management systems for custom packs.
- Mechanical design. Enclosure or wrap, mounting, ingress protection target, vibration and shock, thermal path, and service access.
- Connectors and harness. Power and signal connectors, lead length, keying, and any fuse or disconnect your system needs.
- Charger. An existing charger profile we must work with, or a matched charger from our lithium battery charger catalog.
- Labels and documentation. Your part number, labeling, spec sheet and the documents your program needs.
Typical custom configurations
Most custom packs we're asked for sit in a few voltage classes. Browse the reference designs for yours, then tell us what has to change:
- 12V lithium battery packs: auxiliary power, instruments, portable equipment and lead-acid replacement.
- 24V lithium battery packs: AGVs, mobile robots, cleaning machines and control systems.
- 36V lithium battery packs and 48V lithium battery packs: material handling, industrial vehicles, telecom backup and energy storage.
- 72V, 96V and 144V packs: higher-power electric-drive equipment.
A reference design is a starting point, not an approval for your application. We confirm the electrical, charging, mechanical and environmental requirements before we freeze a specification.
LFP or NMC for a custom pack?
LFP is usually the right choice for equipment that cycles every day, sits in warm enclosures or needs a long service life: industrial equipment, AGVs, telecom backup and energy storage. Its flat voltage curve makes state-of-charge estimation depend on current counting, so the BMS and the charging routine need to allow periodic full charges.
NMC carries more energy per kilogram and per litre, which matters in portable equipment, UAVs and compact robots. It needs tighter thermal design and more conservative charge limits.
If you're not sure, send us the duty cycle and the space available and we'll recommend one. More detail: LFP battery pack manufacturing and NMC battery pack manufacturing.
How a custom lithium battery program runs
- Requirements review. Application, voltage window, continuous and peak current, runtime, charger, space, environment, communications, compliance and transport needs, first-order quantity and annual volume.
- Pack design. Cells, configuration, BMS, fusing, thermal path, enclosure and connectors, with drawings and a bill of materials you approve.
- Prototype and validation. Prototype builds tested against a validation plan agreed before release. See rapid battery prototyping and prototype to production.
- Pilot and volume production. Inspection points, end-of-line test records and acceptance criteria. See OEM battery pilot production.
- Change control. Components, firmware and approved substitutions are controlled, so your pack doesn't change silently between builds.
Lead times run from weeks to months depending on the cells, design scope and validation, and your quote confirms them. For a capability overview, see our custom battery pack manufacturer page. If you already have a design, see build-to-print battery packs.

Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum order for a custom lithium-ion battery pack?
Custom changes to a catalog pack and new custom designs start at 25 units. Unmodified catalog packs start at 10 units.
Can you build a custom battery in LiFePO4 and NMC?
Yes. We design custom packs in both LFP (LiFePO4) and NMC lithium-ion chemistries and recommend one based on your load, runtime, weight, temperature and cost targets.
Can you match the size and connectors of the battery we use now?
Usually, yes. Send the current battery's dimensions, connector, voltage window, charger and load data. We'll check whether the energy you need fits the space, and tell you what has to change if it doesn't.
How long does a custom lithium battery take?
Lead times run from weeks to months depending on the cells, design scope and validation. Your quote confirms the schedule.
Do you sell single custom batteries?
No. We work with OEM, industrial and commercial programs. Catalog packs start at 10 units and custom programs at 25 units.
