How should an OEM qualify a lithium battery supplier?

An OEM should qualify a battery supplier against the actual program—not a generic capability deck. The review should cover engineering fit, cell and component sources, production controls, inspection and testing, traceability, change management, certifications, capacity, continuity, data security, commercial terms, and the evidence required before release.

Catalog reference-design programs begin at 10 units and custom programs begin at 25 units. LBC does not quote individual retail battery orders.

Frequently asked questions

Is an ISO certificate enough to qualify a battery supplier?

No. A management-system certificate can be useful evidence, but it does not by itself prove capability for a specific battery, process, component source, volume, test, or contract requirement.

Should an OEM audit the battery factory?

A risk-based audit may be appropriate. The decision depends on product risk, available evidence, volume, industry requirements, prior performance, and whether an onsite or remote review adds meaningful assurance.

What battery records should a supplier provide?

The required records vary, but may include approved BOM and sources, lot traceability, incoming inspection, in-process checks, functional tests, calibration, nonconformance, change notices, and program-specific certificates.

How often should a battery supplier be requalified?

Requalification should be triggered by risk and change, such as major source, process, facility, design, ownership, quality, capacity, or performance changes, with periodic review where the program requires it.
